It's almost Xmas and without realizing it, a month has gone by since my last post!  Shit.  Well.  How is everyone?  I have a question.  For all the people who have signed up in the last six months or so.  Where the heck do you come from?  How do people still know about this site?  I'm always amazed when someone emails me about Storm Front.  I mean, it's so old now and rarely gets updated and still I tend to get feedback.  I'm currently writing the latest chapter but I've had trouble with it.  I knew it was going to be trouble for a long time because I hadn't decided in my head what role, if any, to give Storm.  But I've followed my gut and gone with it.  I really just want to get this story done, because I have a hell of a lot of other stories in my head, and I want this site to be a place I can put my writing.  One day, I would love to be paid to write, because I really enjoy it.  And most of the time it's the daily grind that gets in the way of me being able to do that.  Which is annoying, because I'm not getting any freaking younger.

I need to get my head together.  My life is in all kinds of jumble and limbo right now, with my younger brother's situation and myself getting settled into Auckland again.  I feel so lucky to have this site to come back to and vent, but I wish it could be more than that.  I wish it could be busier, more active.

I want some help from you guys out there.  You know, we live in really interesting times.  In America, the WGA strike threatens to destabilize the TV industry.  But really, it was inevitable anyway.  The advent of the internet threatens to change the way people seek out their new media.  I may just be pissing in the wind here, but I have a screenplay that I'm sitting on that was written for SF.  And I don't know who to hand it to to do something about it.  I've had several people read it, and I even had one guy several years ago who was trying to sell it for me and even mock filmed a ten minute demo, but he went AWOL on me, and that really knocked me back.  Now here I am, years later, cursing fate for getting in the way of me doing what I want to do.

Is anyone out there remotely connected to the industry that can help point me in a direction that might help?  What I really want to do is develop this screenplay independently here in NZ, because the feedback I've had from so many people is that the screenplay is really good.  So, I'm just putting this out there, my dream really, in the hope someone might read this and be able to help.  If I went the independent route to develop this, I'd be looking at between 200,000 - 300,000 NZ to finance this.  Which is really at the lower end of the scale.  But that would employ the use of a local production crew.  Unless I happen to win the lotto, I don't see that kind of money falling out of the sky any time soon.  But I want this.  I really want it.  I'm angry that I've let it sit for this long.

So now here I am, pondering where I'm at and what I can do.  If anyone has ties to a production company or wants to read the screenplay and even look at backing it themself, then contact me.  I've got nothing to lose by asking.  The other avenue I thought was something a bit more modern.

Given that developing the screenplay as an independent film would involve costs that are prohibitive right now, I've been pondering a different avenue.  Now, tech heads out there, help me out, and also anyone who might have something to add.  Let's say I scaled back the scope of the screenplay [which was either supposed to be a standalone film or could serve as a starting platform] so that it could be done with principal cast, thus lowering costs, and with a few HD digital cameras, and then streamed online from this site?  How much would I be looking at from a technical point of view as far as servers go and what would I need for this to really be something worth looking at?  The content could be ad or subscription supported to generate revenue and cover the cost of hosting, or would that still not be cost effective?

Someone please give me something to work with.  I'm just bouncing ideas here, but they're ideas that I am really hoping someone can come back to me with positive feedback from which to progress.  Storm Front, the story is still going to get done, but it's almost finished anyway, and I'm really looking ahead at a way to take what I do up a level.

So, there's the indie route, the online route, the stick to writing lots and make the site ad supported route, but either way, this site isn't going anywhere unless some kind of change comes for me personally.  So hear me and help me out with any thoughts you guys have.  Until next time,

Peace.

I'm from the US but have no idea how to help you with what you want to do. I've been a reader of SF since I saw the first chapter at Nifty and followed it back to your original site. Since then I've followed your SF story around the net and lived through the frustration of seeing it stop, start, and stop again. <br><br>Fate will always conspire against you. You just have to do it. Happy Xmas :)<br>

I'd prefer it if you did it all more professionally, mostly because it's such a good story that I'd hate to see it ruined through a bad production. I also wish I could help you, since my uncle is a script/screenplay writer, but he only works in Norway with the Norwegian film industry and businesses....

Just wanted to let you know that I found SF through awesomedude.com about 6 months or so ago. Your story is extremely unique, and evokes a lot of emotion because it's not all warm fuzzies. I usually only go for the warm fuzzies (hey, what can I say, I'm a girl!), but your characters were so compelling that they pulled me in even when they ripped my heart to shreds. Nice work! Sorry, can't help you w/ the rest of your ponderings.

Im going to ask Phoenix, he was doing a degree in acting and maybe our university has some ideas. Though we are in a break (xmas and new years). Don't know when we can get back to you.

Ty,<br><br>I've been around since near the beginning (1999) when this was the Ice Zone. It's amazing it has been 8 years since this incredible story has started. I have always hoped that this story would one day find it's way to the screen. I really hope that is what happens someday. You know us Zoners (or Nationers lol) have your back. I wonder whatever happened to the other Panama City, FL folks here. Haven't seen them around in ages. I miss our regular chats we used to have. Give me a shout sometime. You know my email. ;)

Ty, I wish you good fortune on finding the connections you are looking for.<br>The only thought I can offer from a far distance is to see if there is a university in New Zealand with a program for teaching film or television production/directors/writers, etc. as there is (as a for instance) at a couple of the universities in Los Angeles. It's hard to know who has exactly what you seem to be looking for that you can contact.<br>

Well there's three university's in Auckland, I'm pretty sure AUT does film stuff, maybe you could go and talk to some of the professors or film students to see what is required. But then again I don't really know, its not something I've ever looked into. Hmm maybe should try to get Storm Front published, I don't know what it would take, but its a quality story. <br>I've seen links here from quite a few of the gay story sites so that why people are still coming. I hope that you enjoy Auckland, its a nice city most of the time(I would say that since I live there lol).

I'm just across the sea here in Australia and I still feel like a lifetime away. I'd love to help getting this project off the ground in whatever form you choose to go with.<br><br>Here's a few words of advice. If you don't know people in the film industry, I'd be looking to take Fiermancer's advice. While I don't know much about Auckland or indeed anything specific about the NZ film industry, most major cities sport a fairly impressive indy film scene and the universities are the quickest ticket to that scene.<br><br>I'd be looking to make appointments with the Deans of the Acting or Film schools of each University that you have direct access to. There is no harm in asking, and chances are they've had a bit of experiance with this sort of thing themselves and could give you a name or point you in the right direction.<br><br>I know that my university here in Australia used to pay young writers to come in with scripts and produce them. We had a fully stocked film and television studio and projects like that became assessment items for the more experianced courses.<br><br>I'm not sure if any of this helps, but there's some idea's. If you need any help brainstorming, just drop me a line. I'm always happy to help.

The art of creative writing is a lot more challenging then it appears to the average reader dude, and it's made all the more difficult due to demands on the home and work life of an author as talented as Ty. If everyone here banded together to pay all of Ty's bills, I'm sure he'd have more time to post and what not, but even then, life has this wonderful way of throwing rocks at you. I want Stormfront to finish the way it started: As one of the best peices of online fiction I've ever had the pleasure to read. Ty can take all the time in the world. I'm very patient.

It has been sooooo long ago since I found this story that I really don't remember where it was, but am leaning either towards nifty or some place like that......<br><br>As far as getting this published or on film, I have no idea what you need to do this.....I am in the middle of the United States and not something that I have ever thought about.<br><br>And please, take the time that you need to complete each and every chapter that is left. I have been around for years and have no plans of going anywhere even when this story is finished. What you have put into this story over the years is a piece of yourself, and I have truly enjoyed the twist and turns that have come with it.<br><br>Hope your new year is going well and thanks for the new chapter. Haven't had the chance to read it yet, but is in the plans for the next week or two.......

Viacom is starting a new cable channel in the US called Logo. This will be a gay channel and it´s main target will be teens and young adults. Might be worth a try, atleast they have the cash to make a quality production.<br><br>

HEY! Im Still here... I've read your screen play! Loved it.. I know people in the independent film industry here in the U.S. I have some friends at Emerson College which is a very good theater/film school. Ty you need to get back on AIM once in a while and hit me up so we can talk about some ideas. I think it would be a huge hit here.. Sun Dance Film worthy.. :-P - Aaron aim whiteyw12
