Hey everyone,
What's new? Nothing much new on the SF front. The most recent chapter is proving to be quite challenging. Inevitably not everyone will be happy with the end result, but oh well.
Has anyone seen Pirates 3? I did, and I loved it. I love action movies and i've enjoyed all of this series. Especially Barbossa. He rocked.
Things have been pretty boring in my life lately. Work is boring, life is boring. But you know, that's a pretty good thing. I think there's a chinese curse 'may you live in interesting times'. I'll stick to boring, thank you!
Whenever people pop up saying they were around when StormNation was The Ice Zone, I wonder how life has changed for them in the last 8-9 years. For those who don't know StormNation started as The Ice Zone back in 1998 on Tripod. An absolutely experiment on my part and one I'm so glad I did. I had no idea it would impact my life like this. I love writing. I love creating. Speaking of which, Empires is one series I'd love to restore to StormNation, but I'm still trying to decide the best way to approach it. Complete rewrite and standalone or still tied to SF? I'm leaning toward Standalone to be honest.
I've always loved Sci-Fi, and Empires was my chance to delve into that world. In action you can put themes and feelings into situations that push them to the extreme. In SF, you can say you love someone, but in Empires you can truly see if someone would die for you, or just say they would. And the Sci-Fi aspect allows me to explore themes I can't in drama.
I find it funny that someone mentioned a spinoff with Billy in the lead, with Carly Bear, Josh, and Brad supporting. It won't happen, I'm pretty sure of that, but it's still an interesting concept.
Here's a question I'm considering putting to the Hot Debate. The Death Penalty. And it got me to thinking. Divorce rates are so high. People don't give marriage the same value they used to. It's too easy to get out. Well that fucks up the children. Maybe adultery should be a crime. If you break the law, you go to jail. Marriage should be the same, man or woman. It's too easy for people to jump in and out of marriage, and that's fine, but where does that leave the children? And what import does that place on vows? And while we're at it, fine people who get divorced or make them unable to marry again for a certain period of time. Oh but they made a mistake when they married? Tough shit. Something has to change. A lot of society today disgusts me. People don't take responsibility for their own actions. They take on this whole victim mentality. They leave their children, leave their families, leave their partners, abandon their parents. People cheat on their partners [something I personally find sickening, not to mention painful]. Not pointing any fingers, Lucas. Something has to give eventually.
Really when you think about it as a whole, it's mind numbing. But if you get to the core issue, a lot of thse problems can be tackled. A lot of it comes down to the values we as a society want and what is most beneficial to the furtherment of our society and/or civilization as a whole. I think what has suffered the most in the last 20 years is the family unit. Some of it is economical, where families can't afford to live on a one income family, so both parents have to work and the children don't get the attention they need. Another is the rise of feminism and its impact on the role of men. There's nothing wrong with women's rights and equality, but it's not equal in many areas and it's eroded the position of many in certain areas. But I do feel the pendulum will swing back soon enough to something more equal.
i'm sure a lot of your heads are spinning, but these are my ponderings and I reserve the right to say what I want, political correctness be damned. I've always been opinionated and idealistic, but if you read SF, that should come as no surprise. Don't you just wish everyone could have world peace? lol. Oh well.
That's it from me for now. Alphas, help in the Quadrant please. Have a great day everyone and thanks for visiting my little corner of the net. Until next time,
Live well, laugh often, love much,
Peace OUT!
