Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (N/A)

Is it real?  Is it a hoax as some people would have us believe?  Are we responsible?

Yes.

Your turn.

Re: Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (N/A)

I think it is real, and we are partially responsible. But even if it isnt real, and all this is a hoax, I am glad that it happened because it has made the world feel like a whole, so its bought us closer together and thats always good since we all share the planet. Its also made the public more aware of taking care of the planet, not just in ways that reduce green house gases. Water conservation and deforestation are all looked at. So I like the whole package the media (and i dont just mean cinimatic realeses, I mean magazines, newspapers, tv and radio etc) has flooded us with.

In the end we ended up helping the planet and be less greedy.

Re: Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (N/A)
I do too, I just can't believe the rate of damage was that fast!

Yeah, a whole lot of people are turning green. But I still don't think that it's enough to cause a massive change in everyone's lifestyle. I think most people are waiting for devastating damage to alter they're way of life before they make any changes. But by then it'd be too late. :(

I just hope everyone is doing their part. I know I am.

Well this is the issue.  For many activists and people in general, this devastating damage has already happened.  The increasing frequency and sizes of large storms across the world are proof I think.  All the shit we've done to the earth has already made our climatical conditions go haywire.  SOme people say that it is a weather cycle we're going through, but the fact that no one predicted it and that it has happened this fast makes me doubt that explanation.  Whether or not GW has been blown out of proportion or not is unimportant to me.  If it gets more people to take care of the planet, then it's worth it.

I'm proud of you, I really am.  The world needs more activists.

Re: Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (Australia)

When I first looked at the global warming phenomenon it seemed very plausible and though it was derided as nonsense in the beginning it soon came to be the accepted "fact" that some take it for today. More thorough investigtion though shows that a lot of the "Facts" are infact incorrect or blatantly misleading. There are many scientists who disagree with it and they are usually ignored because of the overwhelming acceptance of the popular view. A mature approach to looking after the planet is of course a good thing but to base all our actions on flawed logic seems wrong. Weather on the planet does seem to go in cycles and as more knowledge is gained in this area a greater understanding can be had of the biosphere we live in. It really surprised me that one volcanoe erupting blasts more cfc's, chlorine and other noxious gasses into the atmousphere in a week than the human race has since the industrial revolution. Makes you think?? So I'm doubtful that the global warming theory is correct but am thankful that the majority of the western world is cleaning up it's act.... SLOWLY!!! Cheers!

Re: Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (Australia)

are those statistics actually true?? i'm curious cause i sorta find it hard to believe when we take into consideration the massive amounts of pullution we spew out.

also the release of cfc's and chlorine is more damaging in regards to the ozone layer while carbon dioxide is the main culprit for global warming and this is something that we must have pumped out in the range of trillions of tonnes since the industrial revolution. also cleaning up the world slowly isn't really going to help to much cause the balance is already on a downward spiral, espically with the oceans heating up and becoming more acidic and this means that less CO2 canbe absorbed thus some will be released, causing further heating and so on..

Re: Hot Debate #7 - Global Warming  (Australia)

There are many sites on the web where you can find info and statistics on changes in the weather, atmosphere etc. Including data gathered over many years have a look at www.predictweather.com

Cheers
