Wow.
This chapter did not exhibit the reaction from people that I was expecting at all. I've had a chance to read through everyones comments and what not and I still can't really see the disconnection people are talking about. Storm is as Storm does. That is his way. The boy is downright bi-polar at times, and for me that's part of the appeal.
I guess what this chapter highlighted for me was that different people seem to take a away different things from this story, which is an amazing testament to the dimensions that Ty adds to his work. The fact that we can sit here and debate a characters motivations and feelings just goes to show that they were realistic enough in the first place that things seem out of place for them. I think that this was a throwback to the Storm of old for me. If anything, he seemed more coherently himself than he has for a long time. It made me really happy to see him happy again, but the rage that he bought with him is also very Storm.
The meeting between Dade and Storm for me was expertly placed. The image of so much going on around them and it all fading into the background for that one moment of universal truth made it all the more pointed for me. It was so realistic in my head. Moments like that which are so important flash by before you even realise that they are gone, and it's only later that the true significance becomes apparent.
Like life, things don't turn out as people planned them. I can't wait for the next chapter to be ready and while the fact that the Stormy One is leaving again breaks my heart (Ty, you tease us with these little cameos too much), I'm sure it's for the right reasons. The fallout from these last four chapters will see Dade and Lucas through to a crashing conclusion.
Much love Ty, you always know how to draw a crowd.
